Open Question: internet connection help please?

28 July 2010, 6:36 pm

I'm just going to explain from the beginning. I have Windows XP OS with service pack 3. About 2 days ago I was on the internet (Mozilla Firefox). Then all the sudden the internet froze then the computer too. I let it sit for about 3 or 4 minutes and it cleared up and was working again. I then went on Windows Live Messenger and I noticed that the Windows Live Today thing did not pop up (the window that had news and your email). It also did not have the updates from my contact on the bottom of the messenger window. I thought this was weird so I deleted it and re-installed it and it was the same. Also when people leave me a message while I'm offline it will not show me them. Before it would show me all of them when I would log on. So then I left that at that. Then I tried to log on to Yahoo Messenger and it would not log me in at all. I deleted it then re-installed it and no luck. So then I deleted it and downloaded an older version and it still did not log me in. I never use Internet Explorer but I accidentally clicked it and it did not connect to the internet. That made me curious so I opened Safari and it did not connect either. Only Mozilla Firefox works. Before my computer froze up EVERYTHING was working normal but after it froze all these problems started. So what I am thinking is when my computer froze something happened like it changed my settings. I'm thinking that is why I cannot log onto Yahoo Messenger and Internet Explorer and Safari don't work. Or it could be a virus but that wouldn't make sense to me because it allows me to get on Mozilla Firefox but not Internet Explorer and Safari or Yahoo Messenger. I think its a connection setting or some sort of setting that is messed up. So can someone please give me some insight to what it might be and how to fix it? What should my settings be set at? Oh and I have High Speed Internet DSL service. I don't know if that is important to know. Thank you very much!... Read More »
